About that tampon comment Lucky made in the comic…

That actually has some basis in reality. In the late 80’s and up to the early 90’s, when I was still LDS, I remember not being able to perform baptisms for the dead, whenever I had my period. When I asked whether I could use a tampon, I was told that it was not acceptable. Either a period, or the act of wearing tampons somehow interfered with a woman ability to be pure enough for the proxy baptism, or something absurd like that. I am not entirely certain. Thankfully, for all of you Mormon ladies, that silly policy was changed.
The whole idea of tampons and menses being impure seems so bizarre. Periods are natural and rather fascinating mechanism for the female body to cleanse itself. Also, It’s not like a tampon is a miniature sex toy. On the contrary, it’s like an anti-sex-toy. Un-lubricated, compressed cotton with a grossly unsanitary string attached to it, just doesn’t conjure up any lustful images for me. Yet, in some cultures and religions, folks with little understanding of how hymens work (like Lucky,) seem to believe that wearing a tampon has the potential of jeopardizing a girl’s virginity.
I just thought I’d share.
